Holistic Detox

Detox or “cleanse” are very broad terms in today’s healthcare community. Many types of detoxification programs claim to help with a variety of health goals: losing weight, reducing fatigue, improving mental clarity, and much more. What does it mean to “flush out toxins”?

Our bodies are designed to get rid of toxins, so what are generic detox programs actually doing?  A basic detox can be achieved with a change in lifestyle and diet. No one needs a special kit for that. However, for a real holistic detox, our bodies need more.

Kidney disease ... a silent killer

According to the National Kidney Foundation, more than 26 million Americans either have kidney disease or are at risk of developing one. Untreated kidney disease leads to chronic renal failure (CRF), also known as chronic kidney failure.

The underlying cause of kidney disease may vary. Hypertension and diabetes are common contributors, but genetics, chronic infection, lupus and kidney stones are other causes of kidney disease.

Kidneys are not a mere organ of excretion or selective filtration and should always be evaluated in relation to the individual as a whole. Kidneys have a generalised function–the fluids coming to it and going from it, influence every organ, tissue and cell of our body. Kidney function influences the complete vital economy of our body.

Know your kidneys

If you have kidney disease your doctor will decide which tests you will have and how often they will be done. Speak to your doctor about your results. If your numbers are not in the normal range, ask what he can recommend to improve them. Additionally, you can also consider some natural supplements (like Wei Labs) and some lifestyle changes that would promote the health of your kidneys. Contact us to get more info on these options.

Here are some of the tests and measurements that people who develop chronic kidney disease may want to know about.

Serum Creatinine: Creatinine is a waste product in your blood that comes from muscle activity. It is normally removed from your blood by your kidneys, but when kidney function slows down, the creatinine level rises.

Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR): Your GFR tells how much kidney function you have. If your GFR falls below 30 you will need to see a kidney disease specialist (called a nephrologist), Your kidney doctor will speak to you about treatments for kidney failure like dialysis or kidney transplant. A GFR below 15 indicates that you need to start one of these treatments.

Budwig Muesli

There is sufficient evidence to prove that there are certain healing foods, herbs and treatments that can prevent or benefit people with cancer, and other chronic health conditions. One of those protocols  is the Budwig Protocol or the Budwig Diet. I like to call it Budwig Muesli.

The Budwig protocol success rate has been claimed to be between 80-93% for chronic health conditions according to the Budwig organization.

Dr. Budwig found that the health of your cells can quickly be reversed by consuming a mixture of cottage cheese (quark), flaxseeds, and flaxseed oil.

Cottage cheese is rich in sulfur protein and saturated fats and flaxseed oil is high in electron rich unsaturated fatty acids.  When cottage cheese and flax are combined together it makes the fats more soluble and can now easily be absorbed into the cell membrane healing your cells.

Dr. Budwig discovered that her muesli protocol wasn’t just beneficial for people with cancer, but also for those with heart problems, diabetes, eczema, psoriasis, respiratory function problems, arthritis, hormone imbalance, and neurological conditions.

Known as one of the best essential oils for skin, Helichrysum oil holds rejuvenating benefits that can help to promote a healthy-looking complexion. With chemical components that can help improve the appearance of skin, Helichrysum oil is a smart addition to any skin care regimen.

One of the greatest benefits of Helichrysum oil is that it provides a safe, natural way to improve your skin. Melaleuca

Melaleuca, also known as Tea Tree oil, is one of my favorite doTERRA essential oils because it is versatile and has range of applications.

What I love most about Melaleuca is its benefits for the skin and hair. I often put a drop or two of Melaleuca into my moisturizer, or even directly on my face after washing to reap the benefits of this purifying, toning essential oil. I also like to place a few drops of Melaleuca in my shampoo, or give myself a scalp massage with Melaleuca and Fractionated Coconut Oil.

To learn more about Melaleuca oil, how to use it, where it comes from, the chemistry of the oil, and more, check out this article on the doTERRA product blog: Tea Tree Oil Uses and Benefits: Essential Oil Spotlight.”

Breast Health

Appearance of one or more lumps in the breasts may evoke lots of worries, but that does not mean that these will result in breast cancer. To put your mind at ease it is always advised to have your lump examined by your doctor.

Breast tenderness and lumpiness occur commonly among women, either cyclically or episodically, for periods of varying duration, before, during, or after the childbearing years. It is so common that almost all general physicians see women with this problem.

WHAT CAUSES THIS

About 70% of women aged between 30-50 years experience breast tenderness and lumpy breasts due to hormonal imbalances during the menstrual cycle.

Seed Pancakes - Gluten and Carbohydrates Free

Well, honestly, who doesn't like pancakes? The only thing about pancakes is that they are usually made with flour therefore they are high in carbohydrates that the body turns into sugar.

I really love this recipe (courtesy of chef Shelley at the pH Miracle) as it has no flour at all and the pancakes are high in protein, not carbohydrates. They are delicious and can be eaten any time, either for breakfast or as a snack. You can make a big batch of them and freeze them. They taste as fresh after you heat them up using the toaster.

Holistic vs. Conventional Healthcare

Standard, conventional, or orthodox medicine, also called allopathy, defines health as the absence of disease. In contrast, holistic medicine a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being.

Conventional medicine usually focus on sick people who do not seek treatment until they become ill; there is little emphasis on preventive treatment. The main causes of illness are considered to be pathogens-bacteria or viruses-or biochemical imbalances. Scientific tests are often used in diagnosis. Drugs, surgery, and radiation are among the key tools for dealing with the problems.

Natural medicine, which follows a holistic approach, views illness and disease as an imbalance of the mind and body that is expressed on the physical, emotional, and mental levels of a person. Although allopathy does recognize that many physical symptoms have mental components (for example, emotional stress might promote an ulcer or chronic headaches), its approach is generally to suppress the symptoms, both physical and psychological. Natural medicine assesses the symptoms as a sign or reflection of a deeper instability within the person, and it tries to restore the physical and mental harmony that will then alleviate the symptoms.

Homeopathy over Conventional Medicine

  1. Homeopathy stimulates your own immune system to cure itself.
  2. Homeopathic medicines do not have side effects and are extremely safe.
  3. Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine. It seeks to assist our body, in contrast to conventional medicines, which work against it.
  4. More and more people are getting interested in treating themselves naturally and holistically, and do not feel comfortable with chemical drugs that will cause side effects in the long run.
  5. Homeopathy restores balance to the whole person (the entire organism) and therefore can treat the person mentally, emotionally and physically. Patients will not only rid themselves of a chronic or acute physical ailment; they will feel healthier emotionally and mentally.
  6. Homeopathy not only eliminates the disease—it can bring a state of health, happiness and creativity to one’s life.

Probiotics – Friendly Bacteria

WHAT ARE PROBIOTICS?

Probiotics, according to the World Health Organization, are "live organisms, which when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit on the host." Probiotics literally mean "for life" (did you know that antibiotics literally mean "against life" … interesting, ah?) and are coming to the forefront of medicine as beneficial bacteria supplements to help restore our vital microflora.

The digestive system is home to more than 500 different types of bacteria. They help keep the intestines healthy and assist in digesting food.
